In April, Leagrave Scout Group leaders David and Joe took a group of Scouts on Dicks Folly. The pair had previously both successfully completed their RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman course through the South West Herts Narrowboat Trust.
David described the trip as a “great success” with the Scouts growing in confidence over the course of the weekend.
“By the second day they were taking a much more active role and were really getting to grips with steering and how the locks worked. It was brilliant to see how quickly they developed and how much they enjoyed the responsibility and adventure,” he reflected.
He noted that the feedback from the group was overwhelmingly positive.
“Every single one of them said they would do it again, and one of the best comments we heard was, ‘Could we do it for longer next time?”’ I think that says everything about how much they enjoyed the experience,” David said.
