“I originally started narrow boating through Scouts, first as a Venture Scout leader, then with Explorer Scouts. I first became involved with the trust after a friend was looking for some help teaching. I became an instructor and then a trustee. “Narrow boating is a great vehicle for many things – whether that is building confidence or creating strong teams. “I first started using narrow boats as a Venture Scout when I left school over 50 years ago. Then, when I married, for our holidays my wife and I would hire a canal boat with other couples and take different routes across the countryside. “As the chief instructor, I make sure that all the boats are in good condition and we are complying with the terms of our licence as an accredited Royal Yacht Association training provider. Boat & Base Updates Wildlife
In April, volunteers installed the plumbing in the new training room, ahead of the scheduled build in mid-May. The toilet shed was painted and an additional coat of paint was added to the boat tillers. All the blinds were fitted to Pickle’s Folly and Dick’s Folly and the exteriors of both boats were washed down. A new sensor was fitted to the shower drain on Pickle’s Folly. All 11 inflatable life jackets were serviced. Decked with new bunting, Pickle’s Folly made the journey to the Inland Waterways Association Cavalcade at the beginning of May.
