In October, a concrete retaining wall was built and the new workshop was constructed. Progress has been made on building a ramp so wheelchair users can access the training room.
Preparations are underway to transport Dick’s Folly and Pickle’s Folly to Aylesbury in the New Year for repainting. Both boats will be painted with the trust’s new logo, boat numbers and RYA training centre details.
Volunteer, Chris, highlighted that the trust has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past few years.
“We have a regular weekly work group, better looking facilities with quayside training rooms and workshop rooms,” he said.
“Improvements have been made to the boats – both inside and out. I have been impressed by the whole team – we have all worked together to get things done,” Chris added.
Bake of the month: Lemon drizzle cake
A homemade lemon drizzle cake – courtesy of David’s wife – helped to fuel volunteers in October.
“Sun, tea/coffee, cake – almost too good to do any work,” one volunteer observed.

Bird of the month: Little Owls
Volunteer, Roger, who is currently recovering from an arm injury, shared these photos captured earlier in the year of Little Owls at Sheerness in Kent.
While these feathered friends were photographed further afield than the base, a Little Owl can be spotted locally at Cassiobury Park in Watford.
Roger described how Little Owls bob their heads up and down when alarmed.
“In flight it has rounded wings, rapid wingbeats and flies with a slight bounce,” he said.
